Romer endorses Obama

U.S. Sen. Barack ObamaU.S. Sen. Barack ObamaFormer Colorado governor and Democratic National Convention superdelegate Roy Romer endorsed Barack Obama for president Tuesday, ABC News is reporting.

Romer is the fifth Colorado superdelegate to back Obama; four Colorado superdelegates have backed Hillary Clinton, while five remain uncommitted.

In his announcement, Romer urged other superdelegates to back Obama because "it's important" for Clinton "to know where we are so she is not misled," according to ABC News.

"My reasons are that the party needs to get on right now with a lot of business, including figuring out what to do with Michigan and Florida," Romer told ABC News. "It's important to make known right now not only my vote but as many superdelegates as possible."

Romer said he decided to back Obama because of the delegate math and because Obama handily beat Clinton in Colorado and other Rocky Mountain states.
