The Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce endorsed U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn in the 5th Congressional District Republican primary race on Thursday, according to the three CO-5 GOP campaigns in the race.
Lamborn got the nod over former Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce vice-president Jeff Crank, as well as retired Air Force General Bentley Rayburn.
“For Crank, being former vice-president of the Chamber and losing this endorsement, it’s a big deal,” said Rayburn manager Mike Hesse.
Hesse said “prominent folks within the Chamber” are supporting Rayburn.
Crank spokesperson Amber O’Connor said the campaign was “disappointed to hear they (the Chamber) endorsed Lamborn, but we think we have a positive message that’s been resonating with a lot of the business and community leaders throughout the district.”
“Certainly we were hopeful that’d we get the endorsement,” O’Connor said. “But Jeff has got the majority of both business and community leaders behind him.”
Spokespeople for Lamborn and the Springs Chamber of Commerce were not immediately available for comment Friday morning.

Chamber plays safe in 5th CD
Chamber likes a winner, the 3-man race answers Lamborn's prayers - he'll come right up the middle. Rayburn courted the chamber - traveled with them DC - apparently that didn't woo them.
