7/2/08 -- Today Barack Obama visited Colorado Springs where local Republicans and Independent voters alike agreed that he is out of touch with Coloradans. Barack's values just do not line up with the average Colorado voter. Whether it is his extreme views on the military, his marxist concepts of taxation, or his ignorance about the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment and individual rights guaranteed by our founding fathers, he simply does not understand the mindset of Colorado citizens.

The spike in oil and fuel costs has been catastrophic to many Colorado families.  Speculators on Wall Street and executives in Big Oil are getting rich at the expense of those that work for a living, and our nation is suffering as a result. 

Out of control gas prices have forced families to choose between paying for groceries, the mortgage, or gas to go to work.  No working family should have to make such a choice.  I am running for Congress to realign the energy priorities of this nation.

Several weeks ago, after the Bentley Rayburn campaign released scientific polling data indicating that Bentley Rayburn had the best chance of defeating Doug Lamborn in the August primary election, the campaign was approached by the Colorado Springs Housing and Building Association (HBA) about the possibility of conducting another scientific poll with input from both the Crank campaign and our campaign in order to mutually agree on a candidate to move forward against Lamborn.

Colorado Springs- The Rayburn Campaign expressed its very deep disappointment at the news release sent out by the Crank Campaign questioning General Rayburn's integrity.

"During the last primary both the Lamborn and Crank campaigns were accused of running very negative attacks on each other; very similar to the cheap shots delivered by the crank campaign today.  Unfortunately, those negative attacks have resulted in deep divisions here within the Republican Party; divisions that still remain today," said Rayburn campaign manager Mike Hesse.  Hesse further stated, "These are the type of tactics that we have seen in the Hillary and Obama campaigns, and are certainly not something we would have expected from a fellow Republican."

Senate candidate Mark Udall's campaign today outlined a proposal for a comprehensive, statewide debate schedule in the campaign for U.S. Senate.  Along with releasing the proposal, the Udall campaign is inviting a representative of the Schaffer campaign to meet as soon as possible to discuss details and confirm an overall schedule.

"We are eager for a robust debate schedule that allows voters in every part of the state to hear from the candidates and have their questions answered," said Udall campaign manager Mike Melanson.  "Mark has already been traveling the state extensively, holding public events, meeting Coloradans, and talking about the issues.  Now we look forward to working with the Schaffer campaign on a schedule that will allow Coloradans to hear from both candidates."

Gov. Bill Ritter today signed Senate Bill 163 into law, establishing a 24-member Colorado Autism Commission that will examine gaps in services and devise a 10-year state strategy by Oct. 1, 2009.

SB 163 was sponsored by Sen. Brandon Shaffer and Rep. Dianne Primavera at the urging of the Autism Society of Colorado.

Gov. Bill Ritter today issued an executive order creating a Child Welfare Action Committee to begin making immediate improvements to Colorado's child-protection system. The move follows a comprehensive review by the Colorado Department of Human Services into 13 recent child deaths.

Gov. Bill Ritter tonight declared the fire burning in Crowley County a state emergency and made $500,000 available from the State Disaster Emergency Fund.

The funds will be used to help defray firefighting and recovery costs in and around Ordway.

Gov. Ritter also has directed the Colorado Division of Emergency Management to seek any available federal assistance, including Small Business Administration loans, to help those who sustain damage from the fire.

Gov. Bill Ritter today said his campaign committee has taken out a $200,000 loan to repay campaign expenses that were incorrectly paid out of his inaugural committee's account.

The incorrect payments were discovered in February 2008 as the inaugural committee's accountant began trying to prepare a federal Form 990. A comprehensive financial review was then conducted at Gov. Ritter's request in March and April 2008 by the outside accounting firm Patten, MacPhee and Associates.
