Sinclair covering DNC for Jordanian newspaper

Among the thousands of reporters and correspondents covering the Democratic National Convention this week: 6th state House District Republican candidate Rima Sinclair.

Sinclair, who lost to blogger Joshua Sharf in the Aug. 12 primary election following a heated and controversial campaign against her, said she was providing a Jordanian newspaper with her thoughts on the convention.

Sinclair was born and raised in Jordan; she moved to Denver 20 years ago.

She declined to give the name of the newspaper, saying, "I'm a private citizen now."

As for her thoughts on the DNC: "It's very interesting," she said.

Sharf hopes unaffiliated vote will help him win in Dem-heavy HD-6

Joshua Sharf, a longtime political blogger who won the 6th state House District Republican nomination Tuesday, has found being inside the political arena is a lot different than it seems from an outside viewpoint.

"When you're looking at a campaign from the outside, you consider well-considered and well-thought-out intent in everything that everyone does," Sharf said. "When you're looking at it from the inside, you realize that much of what you're doing is what you're able to do at that time, so you're always setting priorities.

"Then you realize that everything is not always part of the strategy: a lot of times it's just what you're able to do that day, whether that's walking or talking to people or making calls," he said.

Sharf now faces Democrat Lois Court in the general election.

2008 primary preview: State House races

Colorado has 15 competitive state House primaries tomorrow, though some are more competitive than others.

The most interesting and competitive Democratic races to watch are in the 6th and 8th state House Districts, while the 15th state House District race between Douglas Bruce and Mark Waller headlines the GOP primary battles.

Even less-competitive races are still intriguing: Take the HD-6 GOP race between Palestinian activist Rima Sinclair and Orthodox Jewish blogger Joshua Sharf, where foreign policy has become a major issue in a state legislative race.

    HD 6 race makes FrontPage

An otherwise meaningless GOP race in a largely Democractic HD-6 district takes on national siginificance and makes it to the front page. Has anyone heard that there's a truce between Israel and Hamas? Not in HD-6.

UPDATED: Coffman Alleged To Have Met With Potential Donors During Official Work Time

Secretary of State Mike Coffman spent "significant blocks of time" raising money for his congressional campaign during official business hours, Colorado Ethics Watch alleged Friday.

Between October 1, 2007 and Jan. 31, Coffman, a CD-6 GOP candidate, met with people during his work week and during official work hours who ended up giving him at least $36,000 from meetings, the group said. The group cited Coffman's official calendar, which they obtained through open records requests.

One of Coffman’s meetings, on Oct. 27, 2007, was with Rima Sinclair, a current HD-6 GOP candidate who has angered conservatives with past statements criticizing Israel.

In a statement, Secretary of State spokesperson Richard Coolidge responded that the allegations were “just another attack made without merit from this partisan liberal group who only attacks Republicans.”
