It's been kind of a slow news week so far and we miss the name calling that usually accompanies any post we do for CO-6. So today we're going to talk a little about TV ads for the race.
Here's Armstrong's latest TV ad and here's Coffman's latest TV ad. Candidates Harvey and Ward so far have no video that we've seen.
We looked up the on-line political ad book for Comcast and we were surprised to see that while Coffman has significant ad buys for June (6/2-6/29) that there are no such buys for Wil Armstrong. The last Comcast cable buy for Armstrong was from May 5th to the 23rd.
While it's possible that Armstrong has bought network TV (and unfortunately we can't find their ad books online because, we are told, networks don't keep them online) cable is much more targeted, so it generally gives a good enough indication of a campaign's TV strategy.
Armstrong's dearth of TV exposure surprises us because of the name ID issue he faces in his quest for Congress. Coffman has huge name ID. We've always assume that Armstrong's one counter to the name ID issue was that with enough money he could craft a TV image salable to voters. In other words he didn't have to be ready for Congress, he just had to look like he was ready for Congress on TV.
