Feedback Friday

In this week's Feedback Friday edition we ignore comments about campaign finance reform, drilling on the Roan, likelihood of us burning in hell because we write this column and a lot of other merry topics from an assortment of villagers with torches and pitchforks!

"Obama made no pledge. He was open to negotiations on the issue with his opponent but nothing more."

-Posted by Steve Balboni in response to our story "Wadhams blast Obama, Dems on money decision."

Dear Steve,

We think that's like arguing about the definition of the word "is."

Obama may have only said he would negotiate (actually he said he would "aggressively pursue an agreement"), but he didn't even do that.

We don't blame him, because he can raise more money on his own, but to pretend that this was motivated by some higher purpose is nonsense.

That kind of stuff makes people wistful for the straight talk of Bill and Hillary.

"Why do you guys even interview Wadhams on something like this?"

- Posted by Dane Iorg in response to our story "Wadhams blast Obama, Dems on money decision."

Dear Dane,

We interviewed Wadhams because we are a site about politics not about policy. We're not trying to have a thoughtful discussion about campaign finance reform. We are covering what's happening in politics. And it would be irresponsible to our readers not to get the comments of the head of the GOP in Colorado on the topic.

"So drilling for natural gas will lower gasoline prices?"

-posted by Energy expert you are not in response to our story "BLM gambling all on Roan".

Dear Energy,

We're not going to get into a discussion about it. Our points have been that politically it's dangerous for the Democrats to oppose opening up new sources of domestic energy, but they'll also have a problem with people like you if they allow exploration. It's a tough position for them to be in. That's why 7News reported: "'Some parts of the Roan plateau should be drilled,' Udall said. ‘But in a slow stage process.'"

"The Bible talks about talebearers and gossipers. Wally you take the cake."

-Posted by george trent in response to our story "Colorado Right to Life: wrong church, wrong pew."

Dear George,

The Bible says lots of things. We are all for the Bible.

Believe it or not some of us have read the Bible as much as you have.

The Bible also warns against false prophets who would fool even the faithful.

But your comment did getting us pondering something seriously.

Mmmmm. Cake.

We LOVE cake.

"How is it that you can say that all the leaders of CRTL go to the same church, when CRTL's president, Joe Riccobono, is himself a pastor and pastors a church in a completely different part of the state than Denver Bible Church?"

-Posted by Billy D in response to our story "Colorado Right to Life: wrong church, wrong pew."

Dear Billy D,

Loved your work as Gayle Sayers in "Brian's Song."

You're right. We should have said that CRTL is all part of the same cult. It would have better described the case.

But thanks for pointing out Riccobono's church to us. We didn't realize he had split off from the mothership.

By browsing the internet we found out that his church is organized in "cells" like classic communists and terrorist groups are.

From their website: "Cell group definition: A group of 5-15 people who form the basic unit of Christian community."

Not in any church we've been to.

"Press problems at Crank HQ. According to a retraction today in Roll Call, the endorsement was fabricated by Crank. Interesting that Crank sent this out the same day he attacked General Rayburn's integrity."

-Posted by dutch in response to our story "Crank nabs endorsement from National Association of Home Builders."

Dear Dutch,

Yes. We thought the flap with Rayburn was ill-advised by Crank. He scored some technical points, but he's not going to win by attacking a guy who is in third place no matter the margin. In fact, if as Crank claims, he's up 17 on Rayburn, politically he's just plain dumb for paying any attention to him at all.

In any case, it's bad when a politician puts himself in a spot where the choices are 1) he's lying or 2) he's dumb.

We think he did that with both the Rayburn muss-up and the NAHB endorsement.

Crank should be making the case that he's the guy to replace Lamborn, not that he can beat Rayburn head-to-head. We think that's one reason why the Springs Chamber of Commerce endorsed Lamborn today instead of Crank.

Have a great weekend kids; listen to your mother and we'll see you on Monday.

Watch the Obama video

Our mistake. We assumed that you actually watched Obama's statement before you posted a comment here. Obama says in the video that he's not taking public financing because the public financing system is "broken."
He forgot to tell us that in his November statement saying he would "aggressively pursue an agreement" with the Republican nominee.

Dear Wally, It's not at all

Dear Wally,

It's not at all like arguing over the meaning of "is." You made an absolutist statement regarding Obama and public financing that is factually incorrect. I corrected you. The fact of the matter is, there was no such pledge to accept public financing.

Who exactly is trying to pretend that this is motivated "by some higher purpose?" I said nothing of the sort and made no argument about motivations, rationales or anything of the like. You seem to have constructed this strawman completely out of thin air.

Enjoy your weekend.
