In this edition of Weekly Winners and Losers, one insurgent candidate claims a one-touchdown lead on an incumbent congresswoman, while the race to replace Wayne Allard both candidates get extra points. Also, it's been 14 days, 22 hours and 25 minutes since the Scheffel Shuffle started. How long will it continue?

Betsey MarkeyMarkey gets good ink on a real scientific poll showing her up 7 on incumbent U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave. Unlike some campaigns that claim their “polls” have “virtually zero” margin of error, this poll has a margin of error of 4.9 percent. |
Mark ScheffelThere is a growing belief that Scheffel could be guilty of something because of the non-response he’s giving to something that supposed be a non-issue… if he addressed it forthrightly. Not a good way to start out trying to be a Colorado Senator. |
Bob SchafferSchaffer releases an ad that effectively counters claims that he’s not environmentally friendly enough. He takes no hits and scores no errors in doing so. It’s a start. |
John McCainMcCain’s campaign is bumbling in Colorado. It’s a winnable state, but not if he continues to hold Dobson and Schaffer at arm’s length. Some people may not want to admit it, but both are popular with the GOP in Colorado. |
Mark UdallAnother poll with a real margin of error shows that Udall is up 6 points against rival Bob Schaffer. Not surprising considering how much a beating Schaffer has taken the last month. |
Rocky Mountain News“Denver Square” comes to an end this week. Bad for RMN and bad for its readers. |

Winners and Losers
Schaffer didn't release the ad, it was produced and paid for by Coloradans for Economic Growth, the successor organization to the group that paid for the "Thanks Bob" ads.
The fact Schaffer voted in Congress for some farm and energy bills that included ethanol and solar funding hardly counters claims he's not environmentally friendly. And the justification for his support of wind power is absurd.
The League of Conservation Voters "Fingerprints" ad effectively counters the argument this cartoon ad makes.
At best, it's a draw.
